Mental Health Awareness for Black Men and Boys

Breaking stigmas and providing support for mental wellness

Why Mental Health Matters in Violence Prevention

Unaddressed trauma and mental health challenges are significant contributors to the cycle of violence, particularly among young men. Our campaign focuses on breaking down stigmas around mental health, increasing access to culturally responsive services, and promoting healing from trauma.

The Challenges We Address

  • Cultural stigmas around seeking mental health support
  • Limited access to culturally responsive mental health services
  • Unaddressed trauma from exposure to violence and adverse childhood experiences
  • The connection between untreated mental health issues and violent behavior

Violence prevention is not only about intervention, it is about understanding. When we speak about mental health, we speak about healing, resilience, and protecting our people before crisis becomes consequence. Too many of our young men carry invisible burdens such as grief, trauma, pressure, and pain that often go unseen and unspoken. As a community, we must continue to break the silence, reduce stigma, and remind one another that seeking support is strength. Healing Starts Here reflects our commitment to building a Bermuda where wellbeing, awareness, and connection stand at the center of prevention.
